Northern Territory Major Events Company today announced an exciting first for the CrownBet Darwin Triple Crown with American racing pioneer and NASCAR legend, Robby Gordon confirming he will bring his exciting Stadium Super Truck Series to this year’s event.
The 600 horsepower V8 truck showstoppers will compete for points for the first time at Hidden Valley, after last year’s demonstration featuring Dakar winner Toby Price, Paul Morris and Brad Gallard gave Territory fans a thrilling preview of the spectacular racing set to captivate fans at this year’s CrownBet Darwin Triple Crown.
The Stadium Super Truck Series has a big following in the States, and now Australia with up to 15 high powered off-road trucks racing side by side hitting speeds of over 200kmh, launching five metres into the air and 40 metres down the track.
Northern Territory Major Events Company General Manager Andrew Hopper said hosting the Stadium Super Trucks Series is a massive addition to the 2017 CrownBet Darwin Triple Crown race line-up.
“We’re excited to bring Robby Gordon’s Stadium Super Trucks back to Darwin, this time to race for points. With its cult following, we expect the Stadium Super Trucks Series to attract new audiences and boost visitation to the Northern Territory,” Hopper said.
“The Stadium Super Trucks Series has been a huge hit around Australia and to bring them to Darwin’s biggest party is going to be a real highlight for our event as we celebrate 20 years of Supercars racing at Darwin’s iconic Hidden Valley track,” Hopper said.
Competition on track is set to be fierce as the trucks literally fly through Hidden Valley, featuring local and international drivers from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds.
In addition to the Stadium Super Trucks, fans will see other support categories including the Porsche Carrera Cup, Touring Car Masters and the Improved Production hit the track across the race weekend.
Other entertainment will see Matt Mingay and his Hot Wheels Stuntz Inc team drifting their custom muscle cars around the Hidden Valley track and showing their skills on two wheels. There will also be plenty more bike action over the weekend with the ShowTime FMX flying high with their demonstrations on the tarmac showcasing tricks like the jackhammer and crowd favourite back flips.
The Stadium Super Truck announcement follows other exciting entertainment announcements for the event including the addition of Australian Hip Hop legends Hilltop Hoods and Illy rounding out a sensational double bill on Saturday and legendary rocker Russell Morris with Hot Dub Time Machine heading to Darwin for the 20th year dress up party on Sunday.
